DETROIT, MI — A new study from the Henry Ford Health System may provide more legitimacy on the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19. Henry Ford published the peer-reviewed study on July 1, using a large-scale perspective analysis of patients from March 10 to May 2. The study looked over 2,500 hospitalized patients from the Henry Ford’s six hospitals, said Dr. Marcus Zervos, division head of infectious disease for Henry Ford Health System. DOH confirms case of rare brain-eating amoeba in Hillsborough County – ABC Action News

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- Health officials say there has been a confirmed case of Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba, in Hillsborough County. According to the Florida Department of Health (DOH), Naegleria fowleri is a microscopic single-celled living amoeba that can cause a rare infection of the brain, called primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM), which destroys brain tissue and is usually deadly. The amoeba is commonly found in warm freshwater like lakes, rivers, ponds and canals, according to DOH. Infections can happen when the contaminated water enters the body through the nose. The peak season for Naegleria fowleri is July through September. The amoeba is found is more common in the southern states, DOH said. Coronavirus outbreak among students at University of Washingtons frat houses – NBC News

An outbreak of coronavirus cases has been reported at the University of Washington's Greek Row, the school said Friday. The public university in Seattle said that it confirmed that at least 89 fraternity house residents have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. Four students who do not live on Greek Row but had contact with residents have also tested positive. The Interfraternity Council, a student-led governing board for the school's fraternities, said that at least 117 residents living in 15 fraternity houses have self-reported that they have the virus. The school said it is still trying to verify these cases.
