UPMC doctors say latest coronavirus cases less severe in Western Pa. – TribLIVE

TribLIVE's Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. About an hour ago The surge in covid-19 cases in Southwestern Pennsylvania is infecting a younger, less vulnerable demographic, and thus far the most recent cases appear to be less severe, doctors at UPMC said Thursday. The latest cases are mainly linked to younger people who contracted covid-19 after traveling out-of-state or while socializing, said Dr. Graham Snyder, UPMC’s medical director of infection prevention and hospital epidemiology. “This is the pattern I’m seeing everywhere I look,” Snyder said. The intensity of the disease in the newest cases also isn’t matching the severity that was seen in the early stages of the pandemic, Snyder said. ...

Johnny Depp wrote I love you with bloody finger during three-day attack, Amber Heard says – Page Six

Johnny Depp scrawled “I love you” on a mirror with blood from a finger he severed during a “three-day ordeal of assaults” on new wife Amber Heard, his libel trial was told Thursday. Heard was left “scared for her life” and barricading herself in a room after Depp tore off her nightgown, shoved her onto a ping-pong table and choked her against a fridge, she claimed in a statement read in court. Calling it a “three-day ordeal of physical assault,” Heard’s statement claims she was left with injuries “including a broken lip, swollen nose, and cuts all over her body” just a month after their wedding, the Daily Mail said. The alleged attack in Australia in 2015 came when Depp was depressed about filming his latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie — and while he was “completely off...

Carl Reiner, Perfect – The New York Times

At the end of the film, I got another practical tidbit. He invited me to a “color temperature” screening, a mysterious affair where the movie is shown to the director and cinematographer to determine if the color is accurate. We watched without sound and at double-speed to make the process easier. At the end of the screening, Carl said to the cinematographer, Victor Kemper: “Great. Now lighten it up two points.” I surreptitiously whispered, “Why?” He said, “Lighter is funnier.” During my five or six creative years with Carl, we had lunch together almost every day. We ate at Ma Maison, a restaurant where a young Wolfgang Puck created innovative dishes that Carl and I marveled over. Those lunches at Ma Maison were fascinating. The names Sid (Caesar) and Dick (Van Dyke) came out of his mouth...

‘The Crown’ Will Get a Sixth Season After All, Taking the Show Into Early 2000s – Variety

More than five months after revealing “The Crown” will end after season five, Netflix has said its hit show about Britain’s Royal Family will, in fact, extend to a sixth season that will take the series into the early 2000s. The streaming giant announced the change of plans on Twitter on Thursday, highlighting that creator Peter Morgan wants to do justice to the “richness and complexity” of the story. Netflix has underlined, however, that season six will be the show’s final run. Writer-creator Morgan said, “As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day ...

Rudy Giuliani says he called the police on Sacha Baron Cohen following attempted prank – Fox News

Rudy Giuliani called the NYPD when “Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen — wearing a spangly pink bikini — tried to prank him into a spoof interview. The former mayor and personal attorney to President Trump went to the Mark Hotel on Tuesday for what he thought was a serious interview about the administration’s response to COVID-19. He said he was offered payment for the interview, and asked that the money be donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. A female interviewer began the conversation in a room fitted out with a professional set-up of lights and camera with a few softball questions before, as Giuliani tells us, “This guy comes running in, wearing a crazy, what I would say was a pink transgender outfit. “It was a pink bikini, with lace, underneath a translu...

Dont Let Micro-Stresses Burn You Out – Harvard Business Review

Executive Summary Stress comes to us all in tiny little assaults throughout our day — what we call “micro-stresses” — for example, the frustration of a colleague missing the mark on a joint project, or the emotional toll of a trusted work colleague moving on. These micro-stresses come at us all day long, through relationships and interactions that are too numerous and high velocity to easily shake off.  The problem is that most of us have come to accept micro-stresses as just a normal part of a day. We hardly acknowledge them, but cumulatively they are wearing us down. And what’s worse is that the sources of these micro-stresses are often the people — in and out of work — with whom we are closest. We don’t have to accept micro-stresses as destiny. This article discusses t...

COVID-19 and blood type: Whats the link? – Los Angeles Times

If there’s one thing we want to know about COVID-19, it’s probably this: What’s my risk of getting it? Researchers have identified certain things that make some people more vulnerable than others. Men are at greater risk than women. Older people are at greater risk than younger people. Those with chronic health problems like Type 2 diabetes, obesity and serious heart conditions are faring worse than those without them. Black and Latino Americans are at greater risk than Asian Americans and whites. Now there’s evidence that blood type could be a risk factor too. A handful of studies have suggested that people with some blood types are more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19, while those with other blood types are less likely to require that level of care. The most recent evidence was ...
