Los Angeles County Coronavirus Update: Top Health Official Won’t Rule Out Return To Safer At Home Order As COVID Hospitalizations Hit All-Time High – Deadline

One day after Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti warned that “We’d likely return to a mandated stay-at-home order” in one or two weeks if coronavirus conditions in the region get worse, the head of Los Angeles County’s Health Department agreed, with some qualifications. “Nothing can be off the table in the pandemic,” said county public health director, Barbara Ferrer. “There’s too much unknown and there’s lots of things that could happen that could put us in much worse shape, including, you know, some serious mutations of this virus that make it more dangerous. So I would never be the person that’s going to say, ‘Absolutely. Out of the question. We can never go back to Safer At Home.’ “There’s just too much unknown here,” continued Ferrer. “There’s a virus. There’s a pandemi...

Photos of Johnny Depps alleged headbutt attack on Amber Heard shown in court – Page Six

Photos shown Thursday in a UK court depict the ugly aftermath of Johnny Depp’s alleged assaults on ex-wife Amber Heard — with the star accused of pulling her hair out and headbutting her in the face during one 2015 row. Depp, 57, is accusing the UK’s Sun newspaper of libel over an April 2018 article branding him a “wife-beater” over his explosive relationship with Heard, 34. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star has vehemently denied raising a hand to Heard in anger, instead accusing his “sociopathic” ex of being the abusive one. Photos displayed Thursday in London’s High Court, however, purportedly show the aftermath of what Sun lawyer Sasha Wass has characterized as Depp’s booze- and drug-fueled outbursts. One shot depicts a clump of hair, allegedly Heard’s blonde locks ri...

Far Side cartoonist Gary Larson publishes first new work in in 25 years – CNN

Written by By Kiely Westhoff, CNN "Enter if you dare," is the message on Gary Larson's website challenging people to explore his new content. "The Far Side" cartoonist surprised fans this week when he published never-before-seen comics for the first time in 25 years. However, the comics he released Tuesday are a bit different than Larson's previous works. The "New Stuff" is not the classic pen and ink comics that his followers are familiar with. Larson says on his website that his most recent creations are "the result of my journey into the world of digital art." He retired in 1995, citing "fatigue and fear that if I continue for many more years my work will begin to suffer, or at the very least ease into the Graveyard of Mediocre Cartoons," according to a statement at the time. Lars...

PERRY CO., MO (WSIL) -- According to a statement from Perry County Memorial Hospital, a doctor who tested positive for COVID-19 was still on duty and may have seen patients. That doctor was asymptomatic at the time. A post on the hospital's Facebook page says two physicians tested positive and a third refused to return to work. Fetal coronavirus infection may be possible, Italian study suggests – Fox News

A small study strengthens evidence that a pregnant woman infected with the coronavirus might be able to spread it to her fetus. Researchers from Italy said Thursday that they studied 31 women with COVID-19 who delivered babies in March and April. They found signs of the virus in several samples of umbilical cord blood, the placenta and, in one case, breast milk. Women shouldn't panic. This doesn't mean there's viable virus in those places and "it's too early to make guidelines" or to change care, said the study leader, Dr. Claudio Fenizia, an immunology specialist at the University of Milan. But it does merit more study, especially of women who are infected earlier in their pregnancies than these women, said Fenizia, who discussed the results at a medical conference being held online ...
