A New York City ER doctor who killed herself at the height of the coronavirus crisis told friends she felt she 'couldn't help anyone' and was 'embarrassed' when she suffered a breakdown because of mental health stigma in the medical community. Dr. Lorna M. Breen, 49, the medical director of the emergency department at New York-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, committed suicide in Charlottesville, Virginia on April 26. Her tragic death came just weeks after she recovered from coronavirus and days after she was discharged from a psychiatric ward following a mental health episode. Richard "Rick" Rose, a 37-year-old man from Port Clinton, Ohio, recently died at his home from complications due to COVID-19. Rose's death has attracted attention online due to his Facebook posts, in which he expressed doubt about coronavirus safety directives. "Let make this clear. I'm not buying a f---ing mask. I've made it this far by not buying into that damn hype," he posted on April 28. Throughout June, Rose "checked in" on Facebook at bars and restaurants in Ohio. On July 1, he wrote that he was experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Rose's family told a local outlet he tested positive for COVID-19 that same day and died on July 3. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Department of Health reported 60,508 confirmed cases and 498 probable cases of COVID-19 in the state on Saturday, an increase of 1,460 total cases since Friday. The health department also announced 711 confirmed deaths, 3,193 hospitalizations, and 35,435 recoveries.
