PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The rush around the world to find a COVID-19 vaccine continues as fears of a second spike of cases grow. Among the clinical trials is one occurring right here in Philadelphia. Volunteers are stepping up to be among the first to try it out. The clinical trial for the DNA vaccine at Penn Medicine is 52 weeks. Recently, a Pennsylvania mother of two signed up for it and so far things have been promising. "This one was actually less painful than a normal flu vaccine," said Stella Sexton who is a 41-year-old mother of two. "It just goes into your skin, it doesn't go all the way in the muscle." AUSTIN, Texas – The new coronavirus continues to cut its record-setting swath through Texas as state officials reported a record 10,351 new cases for the day Saturday. That brought the total cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, to just over a quarter-million dating to the start of tracking in early March. The true number of cases Arkansas though is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick. A record 10,083 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, while 99 new fatalities were reported Saturday. A new study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association on Thursday found that cardiomyopathy, or "Broken Heart Syndrome," has increased during the coronavirus pandemic. Conducted by researchers at the Cleveland Clinic in two Ohio hospitals, the study examined 1,914 patients from five distinct two-month periods -- 250 of which had been hospitalized in March and April -- who presented Acute Coronary Syndrome. They compared those patients to others who had shown similar problems across four timelines during the course of the last two years. Walt Disney World began a phased reopening Saturday, nearly four months after the theme park shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. As with other theme parks that have announced reopening plans, park capacity will be limited and visitors will undergo a temperature check and be required to wear face masks.
