CDC 71 new cases of mysterious pediatric hepatitis – Daily Mail

Another 71 cases of the mysterious hepatitis are being probed in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed Wednesday. No further deaths were reported over the last two weeks, but previously the CDC revealed it was probing five fatalities in the outbreak — with one in Wisconsin.  One more child has required a liver transplant, bringing the national tally for patients needing this procedure to 16. A total of 180 cases of the mysterious hepatitis have now been linked to the outbreak across 35 states, with patients all less than 10 years old. This is the most out of any nation in the world with the UK, which first detected the outbreak, having the second-highest total at 163 cases. The CDC said the 'vast majority' of these patients were retrospective, and came to hospi...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

CNN anchor Chris Wallaces new gig revealed after CNN+ collapse – New York Post

CNN’s Chris Wallace has reportedly landed a new gig at the left-leaning network — weeks after the implosion of the company’s doomed streaming service CNN+ left the Fox News alum uncertain about his future. The veteran news anchor will host a primetime show as part of CNN’s Sunday night lineup beginning this fall, the network announced on Wednesday at Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation. Aside from its weekly spot in CNN’s primetime lineup, Wallace’s show will also air on the HBO Max streaming service. The interview-centric program will retain the same name — “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” — that it used on CNN+ prior to its collapse. “’Who’s Talking?’ is a rare show built for streaming that gives newsmakers the opportunity to have candid conversati...

Read Taylor Swift’s Inspiring Speech for NYU’s Class of ’22 – Rolling Stone

Taylor Swift received a warm welcome to New York University on Wednesday when she accepted an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, from the institution. Swift attended the 2022 all-school commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium and delivered a rousing speech for this year’s graduates.  Earlier this year, Swift was the subject of a half-semester course at NYU (taught by the author of this post) in the Clive Davis Institute of Recording Arts. The majority of the 20-person class were studying to either be recording artists or work in the music industry, and the curriculum provided a close analysis of both Swift’s songwriting as well as her career trajectory during one of the most quickly evolving periods in music history.  Since releasing Red (Taylor’s Version) — her re-rec...

Over 75 Percent of Long Covid Patients Were Not Hospitalized for Initial Illness, Study Finds – The New York Times

The analysis, based on what the report calls the largest database of private health insurance claims in the United States, found 78,252 patients who were diagnosed with the U09.9 code from the International Classification of Diseases between Oct. 1, 2021, and Jan. 31, 2022, and the vast majority of them had not been hospitalized for their initial infection. “It’s generating a pandemic of people who were not hospitalized, but who ended up with this increased disability,” said Dr. Paddy Ssentongo, an assistant professor of infectious disease epidemiology at Penn State, who was not involved in the new study. Dr. Claire Steves, a clinical academic and physician at King’s College London, who was not involved in the new research, said the overall number of people who received the diagnosis was ...

Spain, Portugal report monkeypox cases, raising specter of wider outbreak – STAT

Two more European countries reported unusual monkeypox cases on Wednesday, a development that suggests an outbreak first spotted in the United Kingdom is more widespread than first believed. The news of cases in additional countries led a senior official of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to warn that cases will likely be spotted in the United States. “I think we have concerns there might be cases in the United States. I don’t know that we have strong visibility on people who might be reporting for what seem to be a minor rash illness to an STI clinic or something like that,” said Jennifer McQuiston, deputy director of the CDC’s division of high consequence pathogens and pathology. advertisement “Given that we have seen now confirmed cases out of Portugal, suspected cases ...
