John Legend Joined by Socially-Distanced Choir on Never Break & Glory for Macys 4th of July Special – Billboard

John Legend brought his emotional ballad "Never Break" to the 2020 Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular on NBC on Saturday (July 4). Seated at the piano in a holiday-ready red suit, Legend crooned the Bigger Love track, which he also recently performed for the BET Awards. He seemed to be solo until he got to the chorus of the song, when a choir -- safely spaced apart -- joined him on vocals. This year's 4th of July TV special was based in New York City but featured musical performances filmed by artists around the country. Brad Paisley opened the show, which also had appearances by Lady A, The Killers, Tim McGraw and The Black Eyed Peas, plus national youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman. An encore presentation airs at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

Matthew McConaughey Shared an Essential Fourth of July Message – Vulture

Matthew McConaughey isn’t here to mess around this Fourth of July, and took to Instagram with a call to action for fellow Americans. The video is part self-help, part face mask PSA, and entirely McConaughey’s best performance to date. “Happy 244th birthday, America. Hoo-wee!” McConaughey begins, already vaguely sweaty and wearing a red, white, and blue headband. “We is going through some growing pains in this one, aren’t we? Yes, sir, yes ma’am. It is hotter in more ways than one.” The monologue then takes a turn: “But growing pains are a good thing because how the hell else are we gonna grow… up?” The actor points out that “we gotta look ourselves in the eye,” and, among other things, “wear the damn mask.” He finishes up with some free-association: “I...

Contact tracing is a race. But few U.S. states say how fast they’re running. – The Washington Post

Welcome to the sprint known as contact tracing, the process of reaching potentially exposed people as fast as possible and persuading them to quarantine. The race is key to controlling the pandemic ahead of a vaccine, experts say. But most places across the United States aren’t making public how fast or well they’re running it, leaving Americans in the dark about how their governments are mitigating the risk. An exception is the District of Columbia, which recently added metrics on contact tracing to its online dashboard. A few weeks ago, the District was still too overwhelmed to try to ask all of those who tested positive about their contacts. Now, after building a staff of several hundred contact tracers, D.C. officials say they’re making that attempt within 24 hours of a positive tes...
