Halle Berry Pulls Out of Transgender Film Role After Backlash – Variety

Halle Berry has pulled out of a role in an upcoming film in which she’d play a transgender character after facing backlash online. In an Instagram live interview on Friday, the actor said she had been preparing for the role, but had not been officially cast. “[It’s] a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing,” Berry had said. She added that she wanted to take a “deep dive” into “that world,” likely referring to the trans community. However, Berry faced backlash online after misgendering the character multiple times during the interview. “Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project,” she said. MCU: Why Scarlett Johansson Didnt Want Black Widow to Receive This Sendoff in Avengers: Endgame – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

When Avengers: Endgame made its debut in April 2019, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were shocked when Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) — aka Black Widow — did not receive a funeral after her death. But recently, Black Widow director Cate Shortland revealed why Johansson didn’t want Nat to have a funeral in Endgame. And no, it isn’t because the character is still alive. Dr. Atlas: New coronavirus cases should not be the focus — it should be hospitalizations, deaths – Fox News

Former Stanford University Medical Center Chief of Neuroradiology Dr. Scott Atlas said Monday that there is too strong a focus on one aspect of coronavirus statistics at the present time, and not enough on another. Atlas, a senior fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution, said on "The Story" that there's been a heavy focus on an uptick in cases, especially in places where governors either have reinstated or have further enforced restrictions. "When we see this focus on more cases, it doesn't really matter how many cases -- it only matters who gets the cases. We know that the infection-fatality rate for people under 70 is 0.04 percent -- that's less than or equal to the seasonal flu," he said. "The cases themselves should not be and were never the focus. It's only the tragic consequence...

Coronavirus expert says Americans will be wearing masks for ‘several years’ – Fox News

Health experts won’t ask Americans to take off their masks any time soon. That’s the take of Eric Toner, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. He has been preparing for an outbreak like the novel coronavirus as part of his work for years. Johns Hopkins practices virus simulations as part of is preparedness protocol, with the goal of offering public health experts and policymakers a blueprint of what to do in a pandemic. One of those simulations took place in October 2019, when Toner and a team of researchers launched a coronavirus pandemic simulation in New York, running through various scenarios on how residents, governments and private businesses would hypothetically react to the threat.
