All the trolls need to take a seat.
Amy Schumer defended her joke calling Kirsten Dunst a seat filler at the 2022 Oscars after some viewers dragged the comedian for being “disrespectful” to the actress.
“Hey I appreciate the love for Kirsten Dunst. I love her too! That was a choreographed bit she was in on,” Schumer wrote on her Instagram Story Monday, adding, “Wouldn’t disrespect that queen like that.”
During the 94th Academy Awards Sunday night, co-host Schumer, 40, approached the “Power of the Dog” star, 39, who was seated at a table with her partner and co-star, Jesse Plemons.
“Here’s a seat filler,” the stand-up star quipped, gesturing toward Dunst. “Honey, do you want to go to the bathroom?”
Schumer then pulled the confused-looking “Spider-Man” star out of her seat and directed her attention toward Plemons.
“Jesse, I loved you in ‘Power of the Dog,’” she told the actor, 33, to which he responded, looking horrified, “You know, that was my wife, Amy.” (The couple got engaged in 2017 but have not announced a marriage.)
Without missing a beat, Schumer joked, “You’re married to that seat filler?”
When Plemons nodded yes, she replied, “Oh, that’s weird.”
Critics were quick to take to Twitter to weigh in on Schumer’s treatment of Dunst, who was nominated for an Oscar that evening.
“amy schumer of all people calling kristen dunst a seat filler when nobody’s heard of her since 2015…..” one person tweeted.
“what kristen dunst should’ve done to amy schumer,” another tweeted alongside a video of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the awards show.
“I need to say this again Amy Schumer is not funny. Absolutely disrespectful, Jesse Plemons and Kristen Dunst looked so damn uncomfortable,” a third critic wrote.
“amy schumer calling kristen dunst a seat filler and then taking her seat away and making fun of her while flirting with her husband…I’m about to throw hands I hate that woman,” one more agreed.
“will smith this, will smith that. can we start hating on amy schumer pretty please!?!? openly hitting on kristen dunst’s husband right in front of her face and making her get out of her deserved chair to do it. chris rock wasn’t the only person who should’ve got slapped,” one final netizen posted.
Dunst and Plemons earned nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively, for their roles in “The Power Of the Dog,” though neither of them took home a trophy.
Meanwhile, Schumer made a few controversial jokes during Sunday’s show. She dragged Leonardo DiCaprio over his penchant for dating younger women and also attempted to laugh off Smith, 53, smacking Rock, 57, over a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
