We know from previous trailers that the second season of The Umbrella Academy sends the Hargreeves siblings to the 1960s, where they must team up to save the Apocalypse from happening (again). But a new look at this season’s opening scene shows that the Apocalypse is coming sooner rather than later.
In this clip from episode 1, Five drops down out of a swirling vortex on November 25 1963, only to find downtown Dallas in flames, Soviet tanks storming the city, and, of course, his siblings in the middle of it all. And as with all iconic action sequences in the show, an unexpected choice of music begins to play: Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”
Based on the the comic by Gerard Way (yes, that Gerard Way), The Umbrella Academy follows six superpowered siblings raised by an eccentric and controlling father who reunite after his death. The first season ended with the end of the world and the siblings leaping through a swirling time vortex, which has apparently dumped them all in the 1960s.
The second season of The Umbrella Academy drops on Netflix on July 31.
