A Witcher prequel series, Blood Origin, is coming to Netflix – Polygon

At the beginning of the year, Netflix announced that development had begun on an anime film set in the world of its hit series The Witcher. Now, the streaming giant is doubling down on Witcher content in the form of a six-part, live-action limited series called The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Blood Origin will be a prequel series, taking place in “an elven world” 1,200 years prior to the events of The Witcher. The series will explore the origins of the very first Witcher, as well as the events that merged the worlds of monsters, men, and elves.

The new show will be spearheaded by Declan de Barra, with The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich acting as Executive Producer and the author of the books, Andrzej Sapkowski, serving as creative consultant.

“A question has been burning in my mind ever since I first read The Witcher books,” de Barra said. “What was the Elven world really like before the cataclysmic arrival of the humans? […] The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell the tale of the Elven civilization before its fall, and most importantly reveal the forgotten history of the very first Witcher.”

There’s no set date yet for when the new series will premiere, but the series will shoot in the U.K.
