Controversial country singer coming to St. Joe’s Amp in Syracuse, plus Darien Lake and SPAC – syracuse.com

The St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview has announced the first new concert of the 2022 season.

Controversial country singer Morgan Wallen will perform at the St. Joe’s Amp in Syracuse on Friday, July 8. Special guest Hardy will open the show as part of Wallen’s The Dangerous Tour.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. via Live Nation. Prices have not been announced.

Wallen has faced fallout after being caught on video using a racial slur in February. He was dropped from many radio stations, temporarily suspended by his record label, and banned by both the ACM Awards and CMA Awards — but still saw a spike in sales. He was also arrested for disorderly conduct in May 2020 and forced to postpone a fall appearance on “Saturday Night Live” after not adhering to NBC’s Covid protocols.

The singer first rose to fame as a contestant on “The Voice” in 2014 and released his debut album in 2018, winning best new artist at the Country Music Association Awards. His hits include “Up Down” (with Florida Georgia Line), “Whiskey Glasses,” “Chasin’ You,” “More Than My Hometown” and “7 Summers.”

Wallen’s 2022 tour dates include two more Upstate New York stops: June 25 at the Darien Lake Amphitheater near Buffalo and July 7 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs.

Wallen is the first addition to the 2022 St. Joe’s Amp lineup that wasn’t rescheduled from a previous date. Four shows on the calendar were originally scheduled in 2020, but delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
