Oregon recorded a slight increase in weekly coronavirus cases Monday, ending an eight-week streak of declines.
The Oregon Health Authority posted 7,877 cases in the past week, up 2% from a week earlier. That includes 2,569 cases announced Monday for the preceding three days.
The state’s streak of declining cases had been on pace to end after seven weeks but a data processing problem disclosed Oct. 25 kept it active until now.
Weekly cases largely plateaued in mid- to late-October, bouncing between about 8,000 and 7,700. That’s less than half of the peak from late August.
Hospitalizations have similarly steadied in recent weeks, with fewer than 600 beds occupied each day by patients who tested positive for COVID-19. That’s less than half of the record from early September.
The Oregon Health Authority on Monday also announced five new deaths.

Who died: Oregon’s 4,373rd COVID-19 related death is a 95-year-old Umatilla County man who tested positive Aug. 31 and died Oct.19 at his residence.
The 4,374th fatality is a 62-year-old Lane County woman who tested positive Oct. 14 and died Oct. 28 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.
Oregon’s 4,375th death is a 67-year-old Josephine County woman who tested positive Oct. 22 and died Oct. 29 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.
The 4,376th fatality is a 56-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive Oct. 18 and died Oct. 28 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Oregon’s 4,377th death is a 69-year-old Harney County man who tested positive Oct. 4 and died Oct. 25 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.
Each person had underlying health conditions or officials were confirming the presence of conditions.
Officials also corrected information about the state’s 4,371st death, saying she was a 74-year-old Klamath County woman with underlying conditions who tested positive Sept. 24 and died Oct. 27 at Sky Lakes Medical Center.
Hospitalizations: 540 people with confirmed COVID-19 infections are hospitalized, up 27 since Friday. That includes 114 people in intensive care, down 19 since Friday.
Vaccines: 6,959 people have been reported newly vaccinated since Friday.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 367,610 confirmed or presumed infections and 4,377 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 5,549,876 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,615,092 people and partially vaccinating 205,287 people.
