Forsyth County deputies investigating reports of shots fired near Parkland High School – WXII12 Winston-Salem

Parkland High School was under a precautionary lockdown Friday afternoon while the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office investigated reports of shots fired nearby. School was out for the day, but there were some students on campus for after-school activities when shots were fired around 3:50 p.m. The lockdown was lifted just before 5 p.m. Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. said the shooting did not happen on campus, but shots were fired in the direction of students as they left the school building. A school resource officer rushed kids back into the building for safety, said the sheriff. Deputies found shell casings and are looking for a suspect. There are no reports of injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Students have since been released from school. The school system sent a message to parents to meet at Gabe’s store across the street on Peters Creek Parkway to find out more info about picking up students.Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School spokesman Brent Campbell said, “We have no reports of an incident on the campus of Parkland High School.
