Increased COVID-19 transmission rates across the country are starting to be seen in Northern Michigan.
According to the CDC County Tracker, the region is spotted with counties in moderate, substantial and high transmission rates.
The CDC recommends that everyone wears masks inside areas of high and substantial spread, but local health departments are saying it’s smart for all of Northern Michigan to follow the recommendation, even if your county is currently safe.
“I’m really recommending the same precautions for everyone in Northern right now, just giving county level data changes every day and it’s a little bit more subject to change because the numbers are smaller than that, generally is pointing toward taking more precautions to keep us safe while we get more people vaccinated, our most powerful tool in all of this is the vaccination,” said Lisa Peacock of the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.
Overall as a state, Michigan ranks in the bottom ten states in covid transmission.
