As COVID-19 cases are on the rise again, the Douglas County Health Department continues to respond to the continuing spread of the COVID-19 delta variant.The DCHD recommends that all people wear masks in public, get vaccinated, practice good handwashing, stay home when sick, and get tested.Health Director Dr. Lindsay Huse said in a news release Friday, “We will follow the science and the best recommendations of established, credible professionals in public health and medicine.”DCHD said the goal is to keep people healthy and alive, preferably while keeping the community as functional as possible. The DCHD said it is working with school districts to decide how to implement recommendations in their district including mask mandates.Ralston and Lincoln schools are already requiring masks for some individuals. Ralston will require pre-kindergarten through grade six students will be required to wear masks along with staff members who interact with them. Lincoln schools are requiring students in pre-kindergarten through grade 6 to wear masks.Millard Public schools also will vote Monday on consideration for a mask requirement for students under age 12 and Omaha Public Schools also said in a statement Friday that it will consider a mask mandate for all schools, all students and faculty.”Wear your masks, the more people who wear them, the less virus is able to get into the air. Keep physical distances as much as possible, and as always, wash your hands and stay home when sick,” Huse said.
