Channel 2′s Fred Blankenship thanks viewers for well wishes in COVID-19 breakthrough case battle – WSB Atlanta

Channel 2′s Fred Blankenship shared a video message Friday thanking viewers for their thoughts and well-wishes as he recovers from a breakthrough case of COVID-19.

“I’m feeling much better and getting better. Thanks to so many of you for well-wishes. So many folks have gone through this type of situation. It can be devastating. I am very lucky. My doctor says because I got the vaccination, I was able to stay out of the hospital. It makes me think everybody please, please be healthy.”

“I will be seeing you amazing people on Monday as hopefully I’m feeling good and ready to go. Until then, something I want to leave you with, something that Eddie Murphy said in “Coming to America” many years ago. ‘To be loved, to be loved. Oh what a feeling to be loved.’ Thank you. That is how I feel.”

Fred announced in a Facebook post Wednesday that he and several family members were exposed to the virus while on vacation in California.

After quarantining and testing negative twice, Fred ended up testing positive.

“Breakthrough positives as they are known are very real,” he said. “I thought because I was fully vaccinated the symptoms would be mild. They were not.”

Fred said despite the symptoms he had that his doctor told him it could’ve been a lot worse if he had not gotten the vaccine.

“My doctor told me the fact that I got the vaccination and stayed in relatively good shape kept me out of the hospital. It’s been a big reminder that health is the true wealth,” he said.

Fred is now feeling much better and will be back on Channel 2 Action News This Morning starting on Monday.
