Also known as the Neiman Marcus dip, this chilled delicious appetizer is a wonderful combination of a few simple ingredients with addictive results. It’s a vintage recipe that has stood the test of time and with good reason; its crave-worthy flavors of cheese, fresh and crisp green onions, toasted golden almonds and big chunky bits of crumbled bacon make this one a party favorite.
It’s perfect for making in advance and is a huge hit on game day, parties, or cookouts. Serve it with some crackers, chips, pretzels and veggies or as a spread. So bring this one to the next party and watch it disappear. For other dip ideas, try out this buffalo chicken dip or a cream cheese sausage dip. Both of them are great for entertaining.
MILLION DOLLAR DIP TIPS AND TRICKS
Cream cheese: Bring the cream cheese to room temperature before mixing so it’s easier to combine with everything else.
Cheddar cheese: Any kind of cheddar will work, like mild cheddar, white cheddar, sharp cheddar, or a cheddar blend like cheddar and Monterrey Jack. You can use the bagged pre-shredded cheese or get a block and grate it on your own.
Mayonnaise: I use Duke’s mayo but feel free to use your go-to mayo. You can also substitute mayo with sour cream. The original dip uses an all mayo filling but I mixed and matched this with some cream cheese.
Bacon bits: To save time, you can use bacon bits in the shaker but I highly recommend taking the time and making your own bacon bits because it tastes infinitely better and is more rewarding. I used about 8 slices of thick-cut bacon to get 1/2 cup of bacon bits.
Toasting almonds: This step is optional but toasting it gives it extra crunch and texture. It should take about 3-4 minutes in a dry pan until the almonds start crackling and release a wonderful almond scent.
Spice it up: Add some spice with chopped jalapenos or a dash of cayenne. Add some smoke to it with smoked paprika.
Serve with: Crackers, chips, pretzels, veggies or use as a spread.
Leftovers: This should last about 3-4 days in the fridge.
Make it advance: This can be made in advance and refrigerated overnight.
And that’s about it. There’s plenty of ways to customize the dip to give it even more flavor or leave out anything you’re not a fan of. Have fun dipping and be sure to share!
