Alden Ehrenreich Has Heard Some Star Wars News But Nothing Concrete, Could There Be a Solo Sequel? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Star Wars movies are events all on their own. Between all of the Skywalker saga and the series, there’s something for everyone. And if you’re a fan of the scruffy-looking nerf herder, Han Solo, then Solo: A Star Wars Story might have been exciting for you. While it didn’t do that well at the box office, another movie isn’t totally out of the question for the star, Alden Ehrenreich.

‘Solo’ is one of the less-remembered ‘Star Wars’ films

Maybe it was because of its placement, coming right after the controversial The Last Jedi. Or maybe people were feeling a tiny dash of Star Wars fatigue. But whatever it was, Solo didn’t perform very well.

It was the first film in the franchise that was considered a “flop.” According to Vanity Fair, the film dropped 65% of revenue at the box office within a week of opening day. There wasn’t a ton of fanfare post-release about it, and it is sort of the forgotten Star Wars film.

The movie focused on a young Han Solo and showed how he got into the smuggling business, the story behind the Millennium Falcon, and his friendship with Lando Calrissian. It also showed his close bond with Qi’ra, who ended up turning on him and working with Maul and Crimson Dawn.

Alden Ehrenreich isn’t totally opposed to doing another film as Han Solo

While Solo didn’t perform all that well, there was still talks of a sequel happening. It was reported back in 2018 that Ehrenreich was signed on for more movies. Was it complicit on how well the movie did? It’s unclear. But Ehrenreich isn’t opposed to more.

“It depends on what it is… on how it’s done,” he told Esquire on July 14 about reprising the role of Han Solo. “It depends if it feels innate to the story.”

And when it came to if he heard anything about a sequel, he said he didn’t know anything.

“I mean, you know, I think our movie was kind of the last of the conventional-era Star Wars movie release time.”

However, he did tell the publication that there were some tidbits he’d heard about the galaxy far, far away.

“I’ve heard soooome stuff, but nothing concrete.”

A sequel isn’t a majorly popular idea for the creators

Even though contracts might still be in effect for some actors or ideas could be floating around, the prospect of a Solo sequel wasn’t appealing to those that worked on the movie after its release.

In September of 2018, co-writer Jonathan Kasdan spoke on the low chances of a sequel for the Han Solo film. Comicbook.com reported that he tweeted several things about the movie, including a mention of the potential (or lack of potential) for a sequel.

“To be honest, I think the challenge has more to do with the foreign box office than the U.S.,” he wrote. “Personally, I think there are great Star Wars movies to be made that don’t need to cost quite so much. Hopefully that will be the trend in years to come, and maybe, just maybe, that trend will allow us, one way or another, to tell more stories with Alden [Ehrenreich], Joonas [Suotamo], Emilia [Clarke], and Donald [Glover].”

So, things are truly up in the air on this one. But if Disney and Lucasfilm look at what is working for fans, they’ll steer more in the direction of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Clone Wars
