Coronavirus in Oregon: 25% drop in weekly cases; Multnomah County prepares to ease restrictions – OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority on Monday reported two COVID-19 deaths and 284 coronavirus cases as the state’s most populous county prepares to ease business restrictions this week.

Gov. Kate Brown on Tuesday is expected to announce that Multnomah County can relax capacity limits effective Thursday, the same day the Portland Trail Blazers host their first playoff game against the Denver Nuggets.

The county qualifies for increased capacity across many businesses because 65% of residents 16 and older are now at least partially vaccinated.

Only five of Oregon’s 36 counties have surpassed that threshold, with five more nearing it.

Meanwhile, Oregon saw a 25% drop in reported coronavirus cases last week compared to the previous week. It marked the fourth straight week of declines.

Vaccines: Oregon reported 21,156 newly administered doses, which includes 11,414 Sunday and the remainder from previous days.

Where the new cases are by county: Benton (6), Clackamas (46), Clatsop (1), Columbia (2), Coos (3), Crook (3), Curry (1), Deschutes (11), Douglas (8), Harney (2), Jackson (19), Jefferson (4), Josephine (3), Lane (30), Lincoln (1), Linn (17), Marion (32), Multnomah (48), Polk (9), Sherman (1), Wasco (1), Washington (27) and Yamhill (9).

Who died: Oregon’s 2,623rd death linked to COVID-19 is a 70-year-old Jackson County woman who tested positive May 3 and died on May 21 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

The 2,624th fatality is a 78-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive May 21 and died May 22 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Both had underlying medical conditions.

Hospitalizations: 266 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, up 18 from Sunday. That includes 75 people in intensive care, up four from Sunday.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 198,972 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,624 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 3,786,267 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 1,740,904 people and partially vaccinating 431,246 people.
