As one of the many surprises during the 2020 race to the White House, rapper and activist Kanye West announced his presidential campaign, running against Donald Trump and Joe Biden. One of his earliest supporters is Acid Rap artist Chance the Rapper, who later confirmed his position on Twitter.
Chance the Rapper tweeted his support for Kanye’s presidential campaign
Some love him for his gospel music, others know him as a celebrity who speaks his mind. Kanye West recently announced to fans that he would be running for President of the United States against Donald Trump, who he supported for the 2016 election.
As one of the many surprises from this artist, Kanye West posted a song in honor of his late mother. It earned over 5 million views on Twitter in less than a day. One of those views was from Chance the Rapper, the performer behind the album Acid Rap.
“And y’all out here tryna convince me to vote for Biden. Smfh,” Chance the Rapper tweeted. This post earned over 20 thousand likes and caused Chance the Rapper to be one of the top trending topics on the social media platform.
Chance the Rapper defended his position
A number of fans responded to Chance the Rapper’s tweet, some agreeing and others sharing their reasoning for disagreeing. That includes a few public figures who since commented on Kanye West’s surprise presidential campaign.
“That Chance tweet is an example of a larger problem, which is viewing the presidency as a vessel for your hopes and dreams rather than as a job that requires particular skills/talents/temperament/knowledge to do well,” Adam Serwer, a staff writer at The Atlantic, noted.
“The particular skills the job has required in the past include a stomach for war crimes, an indifference or adherence to white supremacy, and the intention of keeping things status quo. Andrew Jackson is still on our money and we’re well aware of his special set of skills,” Chance the Rapper replied.
“Well if you consider indifference to white supremacy a qualification then your candidate is well qualified. Also, you’re way too famous to spend time searching your own name. Big fan of your music though, can’t wait to hear what you put out next,” Adam Serwer stated.
“I was tagged in your replies a bunch of times, but thanks for the lesson in how to be famous. I also appreciate the compliment. If Biden is not qualified for indifference AND adherence to white supremacy through legislation and substantive policy than I don’t know who is,” Chance the Rapper replied.
Kanye West has not replied regarding Chance the Rapper’s early support
Kanye West has not yet commented on Chance the Rapper’s endorsement. Presumably, more information regarding Kanye West’s platform will be announced in the coming weeks. Until then, music by both Chance the Rapper and Kanye West is available for streaming on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
