The host had initially announced on the air Friday night that his current show was over, though he later indicated on social media that he was not leaving the network.
“Earlier, I told you I had an announcement, and I do. It’s been really, really great. This is the last night that we’ll be ‘CNN Tonight with Don Lemon,'” he said on his show. “I appreciate all the years of ‘CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.’ But changes are coming, and I will fill you in.”
The on-air announcement sparked concerns among fans that Lemon was leaving CNN, though he later shared on Instagram that he planned to stay with the network.
“Hey everyone. Not what you think. I’m not leaving CNN. Tune in for the handoff on Monday at 10pE and I’ll explain,” Lemon tweeted.

In a video posted with his tweet, Lemon implied some people had reached out asking if his time at CNN was over.
“I got back down to my office after the show. … Everybody calm down,” Lemon said. “I didn’t say I was leaving CNN. I just said it was the end of an era for ‘CNN Tonight with Don Lemon.’ I’m not leaving CNN. So you will have to tune in Monday at 10 o’clock to see. That’s it. So relax. I’m not leaving. I’m not leaving.”
CNN did not immediately respond to questions from The Hill about Lemon’s initial announcements, though the host later shared an update on Saturday morning clarifying that he would still host a show, albeit under a new name.
“Didn’t mean to set the internet on fire. What I said last night was true. CNN Tonight with Don Lemon is no more. I’ll be back on Monday with my newly named show Don Lemon Tonight,” he tweeted.

Lemon started at CNN in September 2006 and was named host of “CNN Tonight” in 2014.
