Churches, community centers, businesses can now host vaccine clinics – KOAT New Mexico

Restaurants, churches and community centers can now host their own private vaccination clinics.”Whether it is a business, a church, a community group, a nonprofit, whatever it is we will go there and we will vaccinate,” said David Morgan, a spokesman with the New Mexico Department of Health.Up until now the state and health care providers were conducting vaccination clinics mostly at pharmacies and doctor’s offices.”Supply is not right there with demand we have enough vaccine to go around,” Morgan said.Now organizations can go to a website and request the department of health come to them and vaccinate all of their members or employees.”It needs to be groups of people 25 and above,” Morgan said. “Other than that though the department of health is going to be as flexible as it takes to get shots in arms.”According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Mexico ranks first in the country for having the most of its doses administered.As of today, about 91% of the doses delivered to the state have been given out.So, why do we need more vaccine sites?”We don’t just want to rest on our laurels here,” Morgan said. “Yes, we have done well.”
