Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez had barely struck out at love when Ben Affleck decided to step back up to the plate, according to a report.
The hunky actor tried to rekindle his old romance with the “Jenny from the Block” singer by sending her love letters while she was still engaged to the former Yankees slugger, TMZ reported Tuesday.
Affleck, 48, and J.Lo, 51, were in “regular contact by email” since early February, a source claimed to the site.
Their correspondence began after Lopez traveled to the Caribbean to film “Shotgun Wedding,” and the emails were more “loving and longing for Jen” than friendly, the source alleged.
In his messages, Affleck reportedly told the “Pa Ti” singer how beautiful she looked in photos from the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Lopez allegedly told the actor he could “own her heart” with his pen.
Affleck was shooting his film “The Tenter Bar” in Boston at the time of their exchanges.
Their allegedly flirty communication apparently continued throughout Lopez’s time on the set of her upcoming movie, which wrapped filming in April. The source told TMZ that there was no evidence that the pair ever got physical with each other during that time.
J.Lo was engaged to 45-year-old A-Rod at the time, though Page Six exclusively reported in March that they broke up following rumors that he was unfaithful.
Speculation that Lopez and Affleck had rekindled their romance started swirling in April when they were spotted multiple times in LA together.
While a source claimed to us that the pair were strictly friends, they further fueled romance rumors when they were spotted in Montana together over the weekend.
Inevitably, Twitter users couldn’t contain their excitement over the reunion.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, is reportedly shocked by the reports that Lopez has moved on so quickly.
Affleck and Lopez first started dating in 2002 and got engaged shortly after. They called off their wedding in 2003 and broke up the next year.
More recently, the “Gone Girl” star gushed over the Grammy nominee’s “great talent” in her May InStyle cover story. The former New York Yankee, meanwhile, was not even mentioned in the profile.
