SALT LAKE CITY — The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah increased by 281 Sunday, with two more deaths and 7,518 vaccinations reported, according to an update by the Utah Department of Health.
The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 383, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “people over people” method is now 6.1%. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3%.
It’s estimated that there were 8,416 active COVID-19 cases in Utah as of Sunday.
State health officials said the two latest COVID-19 deaths were a Box Elder man and a Salt Lake County woman. Both were between the ages of 65 and 84 and both were hospitalized at the time of their deaths.
The department added there are 157 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah. That’s up from 152 on Saturday. Data shows there were 61 intensive care unit cases among the 157 hospitalizations.
Meanwhile, there have been more than 2 million total vaccines have been administered in the state. The health department reports more than 1.25 million Utahns have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and that a little over 870,000 Utahns are now fully vaccinated.
The new numbers reported Sunday indicate a 0.7% increase in total positive cases since Saturday. More than 2.5 million people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far.
Sunday’s totals leave Utah with 395,431 total confirmed cases, with 16,061 total hospitalizations and 2,182 total deaths from the disease since March 2020.
