Burlington: Wolf attacks worker at animal preserve where lion killed intern in 2018 – WXII12 Winston-Salem

An employee of the Conservators Center was hospitalized after being attacked by a wolf at the Burlington animal preserve this weekend. Lynch said emergency responders were called to the park at 2:24 p.m. and the injured employee was taken to UNC Hillsborough.Authorities could not elaborate on the extent of the worker’s injuries.Conservators Center is the same facility where a lion attacked and killed an intern in December 2018. Alex Black, 22, was attacked Dec. 30, 2018, after the lion, named Matthai, was able to enter the same space as her.An autopsy report revealed that Black died from blood loss.Responding authorities killed the lion. Black, who was from Indiana, had graduated from Indiana University in May 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Behavior and minor in Biology, according to her obituary.Black’s obituary said she spent hundreds of hours on her internships including Wildcare Inc. in Bloomington, Indiana; Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center near Delphi, Indiana, Wolf Park in Battleground, Indiana, and had just begun an internship at the Conservators Center in Burlington, North Carolina. She also volunteered for Frenzy Animal Rescue in New Palestine, Indiana.Her parents said Black, who they described as smart, funny and caring, eventually wanted to be a zookeeper.
