GUY: WVTM 13’S CHIP SCARBOROUGH EXPLAINS WHY A FEATURE DESIGNED TO RELIEVE SOME OF THAT DEMAND IS INSTEAD HAVING THE OPPOSITE EFFECT. CHIP: THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH JUST LAUNCHED IT ONLINE PORTAL ON MONDAY, AND ALREADY MANY OF THE STATE’S VACCINATION CLINICS ARE BOOKED FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY. >> BE AWARE THAT THE APPOINTMENTS ARE ONLY FOR THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH CLINICS. CERTAINLY PERSONS CAN BE VACCINATED AT PRIVATE ENTITIES WHO HAVE VACCINE AND WE ALSO HAVE PRIVATE PROVIDERS ON THE LIST, BUT AGAIN, WE DO NOT MAKE APPOINTMENTS FOR PRIVATE PROVIDERS. CHIP: FOR THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH’S CLINIC THERE MAY BE A WAY AROUND THE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM SINCE CERTAIN CLINICS OFFER WALK-IN AND DRIVE-THROUGH SERVICE. CHIP: THE STATE IS HOPING TO OFFER ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENTS IN FEBRUARY IF SUPPLY BECOMES AVAILABLE, BUT FOR NOW, SOME COUNTIES ARE ALREADY BOOKING APPOINTMENTS FOR MARCH AND APRIL. >> BUT WE DON’T WANT SOMEONE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WHEN WE DO NOT KNOW THAT WE ARE GOING TO RECEIVE VACCINE FOR THAT APPOINTMENT. CHIP: PEOPLE ARE ENCOURAGED TO ENTER THEIR INFO ON THE ONLINE PORTAL, EVEN IF APPOINTMENTS AREN’T AVAILABLE, SO THE STATE CAN GAUGE FUTURE INTEREST IN PEOPLE GETTING VACCINATED. IN BIRMINGHAM, CHIP
