The Oregon Health Authority on Monday reported 637 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and five more fatalities as case counts continued a three-day downward trend.
Tuesday represented the third straight day of case counts below 800 and single-digit reports of new deaths. It was unclear whether those figures represented an actual decrease in transmission and deaths or just a delay in reporting.
Where the new cases are by county: Baker (5), Benton (16), Clackamas (63), Clatsop (1), Columbia (5), Coos (3), Crook (2), Deschutes (37), Douglas (5), Hood River (1), Jackson (41), Jefferson (2), Josephine (27), Klamath (25), Lake (3), Lane (71), Lincoln (5), Linn (7), Marion (67), Morrow (2), Multnomah (125), Polk (14), Tillamook (1), Umatilla (13), Union (4), Wasco (4), Washington (76) and Yamhill (12).
New deaths: Oregon’s 1,804th death linked to coronavirus is a 78-year-old Deschutes County man who tested positive Jan. 5 and died Jan. 15 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.
The 1,805th fatality is a 78-year-old Josephine County woman who tested positive Dec. 28 and died Jan. 18 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1,806th death is an 81-year-old Lane County woman who tested positive Nov. 25 and died Dec. 15 at her residence.
Oregon’s 1,807th death is a 91-year-old Washington County man who tested positive Dec. 11 and died Jan. 15 at his residence.
Oregon’s 1,808th death is a 65-year-old Washington County woman who tested positive Jan. 4 and died Jan. 17 at Oregon Health & Science University.
Each person had underlying health conditions or state officials were working to determine if the person had underlying medical conditions.
The prevalence of infections: On Tuesday, the state reported 887 new positive tests out of 18,187 tests performed, equaling a 4.9% positivity rate.
Who got infected: The state had not reported detailed numbers since Friday. Since then, new confirmed or presumed infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (162); 10-19 (400); 20-29 (637); 30-39 (466); 40-49 (495); 50-59 (458); 60-69 (291); 70-79 (182); 80 and older (116).
Who’s in the hospital: The state reported 328 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in the hospital Tuesday, 14 fewer than Monday. Of those, 92 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, two fewer than Monday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon has administered 225,066 doses out of 339,950 received, more than 66% of its supply.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 134,468 confirmed or presumed infections and 1,808 deaths, among the lowest totals in the nation. To date, the state has reported 2,987,263 lab reports from tests.
