Limited notice alerts for COVID-19 vaccine available in El Dorado County

CORRIDOR, AROUND MODESTO AND SOUTH, NO BIG-TIME DELAYS. TY: ANOTHER WEEK BEGINS WITH THE CORONAVIRUS GROWING IN CALIFORNIA. TONI: DEIRDRE FITZPATRICK IS KEEPING TRACK OF IT WHILE WORKING FROM HOME, AND JOINS US LIVE. DEIRDRE: WE ARE TWO WEEKS PAST CHRISTMAS, A WEEK PAST NEW YEAR’S. WE’RE HEADING INTO WHAT MEDICAL OFFICIALS DESCRIBED AS THE SURGE UPON SURGE TIME. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS. ON SATURDAY, THE STATE ADDED ANOTHER 49,000 NEW CASES TO ITS TOTAL. WHILE THIS GRAPH SHOWS THE CHANGES OVER THE PAST MONTH, YOU CAN SEE A LOT OF UPS AND DOWNS. EXPERTS SAY THAT DAILY REPORTS CAN VARY, SO IT’S BETTER TO LOOK AT THE SEVEN-DAY AVERAGE, WHICH IS JUST BELOW 40,000 CASES CALIFORNIA ALSO ADDED ANOTHER 468 DEATHS TO ITS COVID TOTAL. 29,701 PEOPLE HAVE DIED IN CALIFORNIA SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN DUE TO COMPLICATIONS OF THE CORONAVIRUS. THIS MORNING, UPDATED NUMBERS FROM JOHNS HOPKINS SHOW THAT CALIFORNIA HAS TOPPED 30,000 DEATHS. HOSPITALIZATIONS AND ICU’S — I SEE YOU NUMBERS — I SEE YOU — ICU NUMBERS CONTINUE TO STEADILY INCREASE. MORE THAN 21,000 PEOPLE ARE IN THE HOSPITAL INFECTED WITH COVID. AND MORE THAN 4800 ARE IN INTENSIVE CARE UNITS. HERE’S SOME GOOD NEWS, HOWEVER. REMEMBER THOSE CONCERNS OF A TWIN-DEMIC WITH THE FLU? OUTBREAKS OF THE FLU AND COVID AT THE SAME TIME? THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED, AND THE REASON IS BECAUSE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING. SO SOME GOOD NEWS COMING OUT. FLU NUMBERS HAVE BEEN VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT. THE AGENCY SAYS ONLY 0.3% OF TESTS DONE IN LABORATORIES FROM DECEMBER 27 THROUGH JANUARY TONI: — JANUARY 2 TESTED POSITIVE FOR THE FLU. DURING ROUGHLY THE SAME WEEK LAST YEAR, THAT NUMBER WAS ABOUT 27%. THE STATE HAD ALSO EXPERIENCED 19 OUTBREAKS SINCE THE END OF SEPTEMBER AND THE FLU WAS WIDESPREAD THIS TIME LAST YEAR. RIGHT NOW, THE FLU IS CLASSIFIED AS SPORADIC. THE GOVERNOR IS EXPECTED TO HAVE ANOTHER COVID UPDATE TODAY. AT THIS POINT, WE DON’T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TIME, BUT WE WILL OF COURSE CARRY IT FOR YOU ON KCRA. LET’S GO BACK TO TALKING ABOUT THE HOSPITAL SURGE. WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT A FAIRFIELD UNIT THAT WENT TO L.A. SPECIFICALLY TO HELP WITH THE SURF. LETICIA ORDAZ IS FOLLOWING THAT FOR US IN FAIRFIELD. SOME OF WHAT THEY ARE REPORTING BACK IS JUST HORRIFIC. LETICIA: THAT IS RIGHT. YOU KNOW IT IS A REALLY BAD SITUATION IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHEN VETERAN FIREFIGHTERS DESCRIBED THEIR WORK CONDITIONS AT THE EER — AT THE E.R. AS A WAR ZONE. THEY SAY COVID PATIENT AFTER COVID PATIENT IS FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES. THE TEAM FROM FAIRFIELD HAVE BEEN WORKING NONSTOP EVER SINCE WEDNESDAY, ACTING AS NURSES, ADMINISTERING IVS. FIREFIGHTER TONI TINES SAYS IT HAS BEEN AN OVERWHELMING EXPERIENCE. THE HOSPITAL IN PANORAMA CITY IS SO OVERWHELMED THAT STAFF HAS SET UP TENTS IN THE PARKING LOT AND SOME PATIENTS ARE BEING TREATED OUTSIDE. JUST SATURDAY, SIX DEATHS WERE REPORTED AT THE HOSPITAL AND BODIES WERE BEING PUT IN A TRAILER. TONY: IT IS NO JOKE, IT IS LITERALLY NO JOKE. IT MAKES MUCH MORE SENSE. LETICIA: IT WAS KIND OF DESCRIBED AS A WAR ZONE, JUST TRYING TO SAVE PATIENTS LIVES. TONY: I THINK THAT IS ACCURATE, THROUGHOUT THE EMERGENCY ROOM YOU COULD ALWAYS HEAR WHEN THERE IS A RESUSCITATION BECAUSE THEY DO IT OVER THE P.A. SYSTEM SO YOU HEAR THAT MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. WHAT THEY ARE EXPECTING IS MONDAY, TUESDAY COMING FORWARD THAT THEY ARE PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE INTENSE SURGES FROM THE PEOPLE WHO HUNG OUT ON NEW YEARS EVE, THE BIG PARTIES. THE: FIREFIGHTERS FROM FAIRFIELD EXPECT TO BE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR ANOTHER 10 TO 11 DAYS. THEY SAY THEY ARE DOCUMENTING THEIR EXPERIENCES ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THEY REALLY HOPE TO SEND THE MESSAGE TO ANOTHER IN CALIFORNIA FOR EVERYONE TO CONTINUE TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS SO THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN H
