Carano’s controversial Twitter posts kept her in entertainment news throughout The Mandalorian Season 2, as she frequently used the social media platform to share her thoughts regarding social and political issues, often related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The former women’s MMA fighter has divided her followers, with hashtags on opposite sides of the aisle — #FireGinaCarano and #WeLoveCaraDune/#IStandWithGinaCarano — have all been trending in recent weeks.

Twitter users caused #FireGinaCarano to trend again amid the Star Wars actress’s apparent response to the situation in Washington D.C. Although Carano didn’t post anything about the political unrest on her profile, she did “like” multiple posts shared by apparent riot supporters.

This caused many Mandalorian fans to respond to The Walt Disney Company’s own statement, written by CEO Bob Chapek.

Today, Carano returned to social media, posting a GIF featuring a quote from The Princess Bride (1987) on her Twitter account. The short clip from the film features Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) asking Westley (Cary Elwes), “Then why is there fear behind your eyes?” It certainly seems as though Carano was responding to the riot commentary relating to her social media activity that has been floating around over the past couple of days.

As usual, the responses to Carano’s latest post widely varied. Some fans supported the Cara Dune actress, others shared dissenting opinions, and still, others posted only their opinions about The Princess Bride (spoiler alert: everyone loves it). The Texorcist shared a graphic of Master Yoda featuring the following quote:

Fear is the path to the dark side.

Fear leads to anger.

Anger leads to hate.

Hate leads to suffering.

Other commenters, such as RMH III, calmly expressed worry about Carano’s apparent lack of concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak:

Gina I dont troll people and Im not going to give you a minute of crap about COVID but ,,,350,000 people have died from this disease and most transmission is from people who are non symptomatic. Other countries who have locked down totally suffered much less then we did.

Other Twitter users who didn’t agree with Carano’s post took a more intense stance. Stash trim wrote:

Wow.. used to be a fan.. now I’m writing Disney requesting they remove a traitor from their show.

Blossom Torres shared thoughts that many Mandalorian fans might echo — disagreement with some of Carano’s personal posts, but a love for New Republic Marshal Cara Dune, her Mandalorian character:

Dang. I don’t agree with everything @ginacarano may say but I absolutely love her character in the Star Wars universe. I plan on going to the Star Wars universe upon death. I hope to see the Marshall [sic: Marshal] at some point when I am on Tatooine in my form as a Java [sic: Jawa] hunting for scrap.

It is unclear if the poster above was talking about Marshal Cara Dune — who operates on Nevarro — or Mos Pelgo Marshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) who, with the aid of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and a Tusken Raider clan, killed a Krayt dragon on Tatooine in The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 1 (“Chapter 9: The Marshal”).

Carano’s future within the Star Wars galaxy is not known at this time. Mandalorian showrunner and creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni have not spoken out about whether or not she will be cast in future seasons of The MandalorianSeason 3 has been confirmed — or any of its spinoffs.

It has been rumored that the upcoming Rangers of the New Republic was written as a Cara Dune spinoff due to her second season story arc revolving around becoming a Marshal — but, there have also been rumors of Disney requesting a formal apology from Carano before granting her the show. Neither of these rumors have been confirmed.
