James Corden brands Donald Trump a lunatic who hijacked America after shameful riot – Mirror Online

James Corden has weighed in on the shameful situation in America following the inexcusable riot held by Donald Trump supporters.

MAGA supporters stormed the US Capitol in scenes described as “as close to a coup attempt this country has ever seen”.

A woman was shot dead by police during clashes inside the Capitol building and three others were reported to have died on Wednesday evening in Washington.

The historic building was forced into lockdown and the National Guard had to be called in to restore order.

And now the former Gavin & Stacey star has given his thoughts on the concerning mess that was displayed in America on Wednesday.

James Corden says the US has been “hijacked” by a “lunatic and his crazy army” for the last four years

James kicked off The Late Late Show by addressing the chaos in a sombre opening monologue as he gave his take on the matter.

What’s more, James said the US has been “hijacked” by a “lunatic and his crazy army” for the last four years in a powerful rant following the shameful riot.

The actor went on to describe the shocking events a “crazy, sad day, a day that will go down as a dark one in the long history of America”.

James also highlighted an important aspect of the Capitol Building riots, adding that had these Trump supporters been supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, they would have been shot dead.

“We’ve all sat today glued to the pictures of Trump supporters breaching the capital and fighting with police, shouting in the chambers of Congress or flagrantly popping off a selfie as they sit with their feet up in the government’s office,” he said.

“Then under the pretence of trying to calm the situation, their hero, President Trump, released a message to tell those supporters that they’re special and ‘we love you’.

“I wouldn’t want to imagine his treatment or response to these people if they had been wearing BLM hats instead of red MAGA ones.”

He added: “I got to thinking that when the dust settles and we reflect what’s happened on this awful day, that we still have hope because I think if there is one thing that we can have after the last month in this country, is hope.”

London-born James added that he grew up an “outsider” who admired the US, which made him even more shocked watching the events in the capital unfold.

Despite showing his disgust in the handling of the riots, James reassured fans that change is coming as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris get ready to move into the White House.

“Because in two weeks on those same steps, where that mob fought and pushed past police, Joe Biden will be sworn in as president of the United States,” James continued.

“In two weeks where that mob fought and pushed past police, Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the Vice President of the United States.”

James went on: “And in two weeks on those same steps where that mob fought and pushed past the police, the people who encouraged and instigated that violence, Donald Trump, his children, Rudy Giuliani, they’re all going to need a tourist pass to get in because they’ve lost the presidency, they’ve lost the house and now they’ve lost the senate…

“Today was their last dance at the worst party any of us have ever been to, so if you can, have hope… We’ve seen in these past few weeks in America that votes count, change is coming, science is real, a vaccine is on the way.

“I really do believe there are better times ahead.”
