Iowa reports 540 new COVID-19 cases, no additional deaths Monday

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Monday reported 540 new positive COVID-19 cases and no additional deaths.As of 10 a.m., the health department reported 275,473 total positive cases, 229,624 total recoveries and 3,745 total deaths. The health department reported 274,933 total positive cases and 3,745 total deaths 24 hours earlier. Of the state’s 3,745 deaths, 3,439 list COVID-19 as the underlying cause and 306 report it as a contributing factor. IDPH data shows 1,342,806 Iowans have been tested for the virus. Iowa reports a 14-day positivity rate of 12.1% and a 7-day positivity rate of 9.4%. Thirty-two of Iowa’s 99 counties report a positivity rate at or greater than 15%. That’s up from 30 the previous day. COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased over the last 24 hours after showing a steady decline since late November. There are currently 586 hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 553 a day earlier. There were 82 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, up from 71 the previous day. There are 111 patients in intensive care, an increase of 3 from the previous 24 hours.Iowa reports approximately 3,430 hospital beds, 388 ICU beds and 881 ventilators available. Hospitalization analysis shows 401 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 as a primary diagnosis, while 185 were hospitalized for another reason but tested positive. State data shows 73% of those hospitalized with COVID-19 are 60 or older.Iowa reports 123 long-term care facilities with COVID-19 outbreaks. That’s down from 125 a day earlier.
