COVID-19 Statistics | Dec. 7, 2020 – Lost Coast Outpost

Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Eighty-eight additional cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing to 1,102 the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus. Five new hospitalizations also were reported since Friday.

The daily, weekly and monthly datasets on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard have been updated. Some highlights include:

  • The county has seen a 21% increase in cases from last week.
  • The 20-29 age group represents the largest percentage of local cases at 27.6%. The 30-39 age group is the next highest at 20.3%. Almost 64% of local cases are 39 or under.
  • The case doubling time stands at 31 days. Since the county confirmed its first case on Feb. 20, it has taken 291 days to reach 1,102 cases. At the current rate of infection, it would take an estimated 31 days to add an additional 1,102 cases.

Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Josh Ennis said, “We’ve all heard about exponential growth, and we are flirting dangerously with it and could already be there. COVID transmission, like a freight train, has gained a lot of speed and will take weeks to slow down, with the full impact to hospitals yet to be seen.” Dr. Ennis added that now is the time to act. “Do your part. You may know someone whose life depends on it.”
