Queen will feel desperately betrayed as Meghan Markle says she was unprotected – Express

The declarations made by Meghan‘s legal team in a series of newly-released documents will likely have an impact on the Queen, royal author Phil Dampier said. He told the Daily Telegraph: “I think the Queen is going to be absolutely devastated by this.

“She’ll cope with it but she will feel desperately betrayed.

“She broke with protocol to invite Meghan to Christmas at Sandringham before they were married, and the couple ended up with a beautiful multi-million pound home in the middle of Windsor Great Park.

“Some will be wondering: what more did they want?”

In December 2017, six months before the Royal Wedding of Duke and Duchess of Sussex took place, Meghan was invited by the Queen to spend Christmas Day at Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family.

This move marked a clear break in the royal tradition, repeated once again on Christmas Day 2019, when the monarch invited Princess Beatrice’s fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at Sandringham House.

The property in Windsor Great Park Mr Dampier referred to is Frogmore Cottage, the house gifted to the Sussexes by the monarch after their wedding.

Between late 2018 and early 2019, the cottage underwent renovation works worth £2.3million, paid for by the taxpayers.

Meghan’s legal team filed more than 30 pages of legal documents on June 30 following a request from the Mail on Sunday, sued by the Duchess of Sussex in late 2019.

Asked to explain why the Duchess was “vulnerable” at the time of the newspaper printed her private letter to her father, Meghan’s legal team said: “The Claimant had become the subject of a large number of false and damaging articles by the UK tabloid media, specifically by the Defendant, which caused tremendous emotional distress and damage to her mental health.

“As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself.”

This answer has been perceived by many as a swipe to the Royal Family.

However, a source told The Times earlier this week Meghan’s anger is targeting her former communication team based at Kensington Palace for not defending her from claims widely reported by the press.

While Kensington Palace, which represented Meghan and Harry as well as Kate and Prince William between May 2018 and the spring of 2019, followed the Queen’s mantra ‘never complain, never explain’, Meghan would have preferred her staff to issue statements to dismiss the reports, the source suggested.

Voicing concerns, the source added: “No one thinks this is going to end well. For anyone.”

Meghan’s lawyers also claimed the Royal Wedding gave UK tourism a £1billion boost.

Meghan is accusing Associated Newspapers, the published of the Mail on Sunday, Daily Mail and MailOnline, of misuse of private information, copyright infringement and breach of the Data Protection Act.

The company, which published on the Mail On Sunday extracts of a private letter sent by Meghan to her estranged father Thomas Markle Snr, denies the claims.
