Coronavirus: Student athlete, spectator test positive after attending Jordan-Elbridge cross country meet – syracuse.com

Jordan, N.Y. — A student athlete tested positive for the coronavirus after participating in a cross country meet Saturday at Jordan-Elbridge High School, according to the Cayuga County Health Department.

A spectator at the cross country meet also has tested positive for Covid-19, health officials said in a news release Sunday.

Jordan-Elbridge hosted the cross country meet Saturday, featuring runners from J-E, Christian Brothers Academy, Skaneateles and Weedsport.

The Cayuga County Health Department on Sunday issued a release warning the public of the potential Covid-19 exposure at the meet.

Anyone in attendance at the cross country meet Saturday at J-E High School may have been exposed and should monitor themselves for symptoms of Covid-19 for 14 days from the date of potential exposure, health director Kathleen Cuddy said.

The Cayuga County Health Department alerted the public of the potential exposure because some of its residents were affected, Cuddy said. Weedsport Central School District is in Cayuga County.

Jordan-Elbridge High School is in Onondaga County, less than six miles from Weedsport Junior-Senior High School. CBA and Skaneateles high schools also are in Onondaga County.

Cayuga County health officials said people with Covid-19 have had a “wide range of symptoms reported, ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus.”

Some Covid-19 symptoms include:

• Fever or chills

• Cough

• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

• Fatigue

• Muscle or body aches

• Headache

• New loss of taste or smell

• Sore throat

• Congestion or runny nose

• Nausea or vomiting

• Diarrhea

“This list does not include all possible symptoms,” health officials said. “If symptoms do develop, stay home, and call your doctor for further guidance. If you are elderly, have underlying medical conditions, or are immunocompromised, call your doctor early even if your illness is mild. In an emergency, call 911.”
