For the newly released movie, the actor attended the Conservative Political Action Conference, where he had a scare while going through security.
Sacha Baron Cohen says he had a moment where he was slightly panicked that his disguise as President Trump for the Borat sequel was going to be discovered.
The actor appears on Monday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he talks about his new sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, now streaming on Amazon. In the film, Cohen reprises his role as a Kazakh television journalist named Borat Sagdiyev who interacts with real-life, unsuspecting people. The plot centers around Borat traveling to the United States to offer his daughter up as a gift to Vice President Mike Pence.
For one part of the movie, Cohen was transformed into Trump to go undercover at the Conservative Political Action Conference. The transformation was thanks to prosthetics and a fat suit. But to disguise himself to get past security, he tried to make himself look not so much like Trump.
At one point while going through security, a security officer was scanning Cohen with a wand, and it beeped when it got to his chest.
“I was terrified, obviously, the moment they touch my body — it’s a fat suit,” Cohen said. “So I wouldn’t have been allowed in.”
When asked what the beep was, he thought quickly and said it was a pacemaker. However, the wand beeped again when it got a little lower on his abdomen.
“He said, ‘Well, what’s that?’ And I didn’t know what to say, and he said, ‘Well, hold on, it’s the wire to the pacemaker, yeah?’ And I go, ‘Yeah, yeah, of course.’ And he let me in,” Cohen said.
He then spent “five hours hiding in the men’s bathroom” at the event, “listening to conservative men go to the toilet.”
He then made a joke about a senior Trump adviser: “Stephen Miller, if you’re watching this, you need more fiber in your diet. It shouldn’t take that long.”
