67 new coronavirus cases in Onondaga County; testing site opening at CNY Regional Market – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — Onondaga County confirmed 67 new cases of the coronavirus in the last day, announced the results of its Covid-19 enforcement task force and are opening up a new testing site.

Of those 67 cases, 45 were from community spread, County Executive Ryan McMahon tweeted Sunday afternoon. Of those 45, 18 were from a known source. Another 13 were contracted among household members, five were from travel and four are still being traced.

Seven cases were tracked back to K-12 schools in the county and four were traced to colleges and universities.

The 67 new cases is down from 71 new cases announced Saturday and the 99 new cases announced Friday, a single-day record.

McMahon said Saturday that the county would send an enforcement team out this weekend to bars, restaurants and private gatherings to crack down on large gatherings or people who are not wearing masks.

The task force visited 25 businesses Saturday night and found just one violator, who was fined.

McMahon tweeted that the county is opening a testing site at the F Shed at the CNY Regional Market. Anyone showing symptoms of Covid-19 can get tested there starting Tuesday, with results available likely within 24 to 36 hours. The testing site, located at 2100 Park St. in Syracuse, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The county’s seven-day average of positive coronavirus tests is 1.57%.

There are currently 23 people hospitalized with Covid-19 in Onondaga County, including four people in the ICU.

There were no new deaths from Covid-19 since Thursday. All told, 212 county residents have died from the virus since the pandemic began in March.
