17 Iowa counties report high coronavirus positivity rate

Iowa reports 17 counties with high coronavirus positivity rates as the state continues to set records for hospitalizations.The Iowa Department of Public Health on Monday reported 677 new coronavirus cases and two additional deaths.As of 10 a.m., the health department reported 116,452 total cases, 87,984 total recoveries and 1,636 total deaths since the pandemic began. The state reported 115,775 total cases and 1,634 total deaths 24 hours earlier.Iowa has set yet another record for hospitalizations, as the health department reports 561 hospitalized, up from a record 541 the previous day. There are 129 Iowans listed in intensive care, up from 119 the previous day. There were 73 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, down from 85 the previous day. There are 45 patients on ventilators, up from 42 the previous day. The state reported approximately 3,310 available inpatient hospital beds, with 777 ventilators and 398 ICU beds available.State data shows 939,561 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. The health department received 4,742 lab test results in the previous day, with 763 positive results. The state receives test results from prior days that add to the overall total. Iowa reports a 14-day positivity rate of 10.7%.Health department data shows 17 counties with a 14-day positivity rate greater than 15%. Public schools in Harrison Delaware, Osceola, Cass, Plymouth, O’Brien, Sioux, Winnebago, Jackson, Carroll, Monroe, Lyon, Adams, Woodbury, Dubuque, Humboldt and Des Moines counties can apply for a waiver to provide 100% online learning.State data shows 67 Iowa long-term care facilities report COVID-19 outbreaks, unchanged from the previous day. Iowa reports 1,985 positive cases and 779 recoveries within those facilities.
