SPRINGFIELD – The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 at Baystate Health facilities has remained about the same this month, but there has been an increase this week in patients who are critically ill with the disease.
Officials are reporting on Sunday that 13 people who have tested positive for the disease are being treated at Baystate hospitals, which is an increase from 11 admitted the week before for COVID-19. This week six of those patients are being treated in critical care units while two were critically ill the previous week.
In early April, 179 patients were being treated in Baystate Health facilities. The numbers have been slowly declining ever since. A record low of 10 patients with COVID-19 was reported two weeks ago, officials said.
All 13 patients are currently being treated at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The company also operates Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Baystate Noble in Westfield and Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
