Kate Middleton Reportedly Made An Effort With Meghan Markle, But It Wasnt Enough for the Duchess of Sussex – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Meghan Markle is no longer an official member of the royal family, but that doesn’t mean that the public’s fascination with her time in the royal circle is any less intense. In fact, with the release of several new books detailing the inner workings of the royal family, people are becoming more invested in Meghan‘s story than ever before. One of these new releases describes the relationship between Markle and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and the revelations it contains regarding the way that Meghan reportedly felt toward Kate are no less than explosive.

Was there really a feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton?

When Meghan first started dating Prince Harry in the summer of 2016, it seemed to be a much simpler time. Meghan, then best known as an actress on the TV show Suits, was able to keep her romance with Prince Harry on the down-low for at least the first few months of their romance.

However, by late 2016, everyone knew about their affair. By the time 2017 rolled around, Meghan began meeting the royal family members, including Kate, Prince William’s wife.

Reports started circulating not long after the meeting that Meghan and Kate did not get along well. In fact, it wasn’t long before media outlets were reporting that there was a full-blown feud between the women — a feud that stemmed from Meghan’s supposed controlling tendencies and her “overbearing” way of directing palace staffers.

Neither Meghan nor Kate made any sort of public statement regarding the alleged feud. But, as time went on, more and more information began going public.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle had little in common

Eventually, sources began describing the real feud as being between Prince Harry and Prince William, stating that there was never any real animosity between Meghan and Kate. However, multiple sources confirmed that the two women were never really close and that their many differences made it impossible for them to have a great relationship.

Furthermore, it is likely that Meghan might have felt a little irritated that the media insisted on comparing her to Kate. Everything from her style to the way she wore her hair was matched against Kate.

By late 2019, it was clear that the stress of constant scrutiny had gotten to Meghan as well as to Prince Harry. In January 2020, the couple announced that they would be stepping away as senior royals in order to focus on their own projects.

In the spring of 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry moved to California, to set up a new home base and plan out their future projects. It is unclear whether the two have spent any time with their in-laws since the move, but considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it seems unlikely.

Still, the public’s fascination with the story behind Meghan and Kate’s relationship rages on — and a new book has some truly juicy details.

In the book, titled Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, author Tom Quinn wrote that Meghan held a deep resentment towards Kate and that she couldn’t get over her feelings of being treated as “second best.” Furthermore, Quinn claims that on several occasions, Kate went out of her way to make an effort to be kind to Meghan and that she was actually “quite welcoming.”

However, it wasn’t enough. As Quinn details: “the Duchess of Cambridge has a full schedule of engagements and is the mother to three very young, very active children. The idea that she should have made the Duchess of Sussex’s happiness a priority is ridiculous.”

The author goes on to write that “when she did do something to express her support, such as sending flowers to the Duchess of Sussex for her birthday, the message came back that it was not ‘enough.’ Meghan was resentful of all of Catherine’s positive press. It all became unnecessarily tense.”
