Alamance County jail has 99 positive coronavirus cases among staff, inmates, health officials say

Health department officials said it has identified a coronavirus outbreak at the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.Since the first case was identified, the agency said it has been working closely with the county’s health department to implement mass testing and additional safety precautions that help protect both inmates and staff.Officials say, right now, 99 coronavirus cases have been confirmed at the facility, among six staff members and 93 inmates/detainees.”Since March, the Alamance County Detention Center has instituted early screening and testing of inmates and detainees as well as increased sanitation and cleaning of all facilities. With these new positive cases identified, the Sheriff’s Office is committed to aggressively working with our Health Department to protect our staff and those entering our jail. Our staff and medical professionals are implementing more stringent health monitoring, the distribution of masks and hygiene kits, and providing ongoing COVID-19 testing. Since then, a total of 3,244 cases have been confirmed in the community. Of those confirmed cases, 2,858 have been released from isolation. 15 people are currently fighting the virus in the hospital.There have been 46 COVID-19 related deaths in Alamance County.
