Britney Spears wants her father, Jamie Spears, to no longer fully control her life.

TMZ has new reporting in which the pop star has asked a judge to oust her father as sole conservator over her estate. In the filing, which was submitted by her lawyer, Britney says she wants someone else to have the final say. The person she’s eyeballing is Jodi Montgomery, who has been Britney’s temporary conservator since last fall

Britney “strongly prefers” that Jodi become a permanent conservator, the court documents read.

In regards to her business affairs, Britney makes it clear that she no longer wants her father to be in charge, preferring a “qualified corporate fiduciary” instead.

TMZ reports “conversations have been had about adding a corporate fiduciary — which we’re told would likely be a bank — but that the talks have included Jamie staying on as co-conservator of the estate.” Whether Britney is open to that arrangement is unclear.

Brit’s attorney noted that in order for the singer to live her life in the way that she desires, major changes in the conservatorship must be made.

A judge has not submitted a decision yet.

The conservatorship, which Jamie has run since 2008, has been the source of contention for years, especially among Britney’s fans, some of whom believe she’s being held against her will. The #FreeBritney movement has been gaining momentum lately.

Last year, the “Toxic” singer fanned the #FreeBritney flames when she told a judge that Jamie committed her to a mental health facility against her will and also forced her to take drugs.

There’s no question that Britney’s relationship with her father has frayed over the years. In fact, they’ve reportedly had virtually no contact since he was accused of putting his hands on her teenage son Sean in August 2019. Recently, Jamie publicly addressed the #FreeBritney movement for the first time, calling it “a joke.”

“All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue,” Jamie told the New York Post’s Page Six. “It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.”

TMZ has reported that Britney is not being held captive but rather “struggling” with mental illness. The webloid reports Brit’s medication stopped working and doctors have been trying to find the right combination to properly treat her — but to no avail thus far.

Britney, TMZ says, has “not been easy to deal with,” “sometimes complains she wants more freedom” and “hasn’t been especially stable managing her mental illness.”

Recently, Britney’s brother, Bryan Spears, spoke about the conservatorship on the “As NOT Seen on TV” podcast, saying it’s “been a great thing for our family, to this point.”

“She’s always wanted to get out of it. It’s very frustrating to have,” he said. “Whether someone’s coming in peace to help or coming in with an attitude, having someone constantly tell you to do something has got to be frustrating. She’s wanted to get out of it for quite some time.”
