918 new coronavirus cases, 14 additional deaths reported in Iowa

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Thursday reported 14 additional coronavirus deaths and 918 new positive cases.As of 10 a.m. Thursday, IDPH reported 76,968 total positive cases, 55,767 recoveries and 1,248 deaths since the pandemic began. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, IDPH had reported 76,050 total positive cases and 1,234 total deaths.IDPH data shows a total of 719,622 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. There were 6,055 lab test results received in the previous day, with 669 positive results. The state receives lab results from prior days that add to the overall total. IDPH reports a statewide positivity rate of 8.4% over the last 14 days. One of four Iowans have been tested for the virus while one of 41 have tested positive. There are currently seven Iowa counties reporting a positivity rate greater than 15% over the last two weeks, up from five the previous day. Public schools in Sioux, Lyon, Winnebago, Plymouth, Carroll, Crawford and Osceola counties can apply for a waiver with the state to provide 100% virtual learning. Sioux County reports a positivity rate of 28.2%, while Lyon County reports 23.1%.There are now 271 Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19, down from 291 the previous day. IDPH reported 85 patients in intensive care, up from 79 the previous day. There are 36 patients on ventilators, up from 32 the previous day. There were 34 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, down from 44 the previous day. IDPH reported approximately 2,790 available hospital beds, with 767 ventilators and 415 ICU beds available.There are 39 long-term care facilities reporting coronavirus outbreaks in Iowa, up from 38 the previous day. IDPH reported 924 positive cases and 453 recoveries within those facilities.
