On 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, things have been extremely rough for Karine Staehle. She packed up her life to start over again in Kentucky with her husband, Paul Staehle, and their son, Pierre, but it hasn’t been easy.
In a recent episode, Karine locks herself in the bathroom, and then proceeds to leave the house. Paul runs after his wife, and eventually finds her in a park. It’s clear that Karine isn’t at all happy with the way things are going. This week, Karine explains why she left the house in a first look of the upcoming episode.
Karine Staehle locks herself in the bathroom, and then leaves the house
Karine and Paul have settled into a studio home with their son, but things are far from happy between them. Karine gave Paul an ultimatum just a few weeks ago when she told him he has two months to find a job, or she’ll go back to Brazil with their son.
Recently, Karine locked the bathroom door and wouldn’t come out when Paul tried to talk with her. Paul was unsure what was going on, but did mention she’s done it before.
“I’m not sure what’s going on right now, Karine’s mad at me, or she’s mad at the fact that my mom’s coming over,” Paul explained. “Every now and again, she does this. She’ll go in the bathroom, lock herself in there for like four, five, six hours. And then finally come out. She’s been having a lot of mood swings lately, and I feel really bad for her. I’m trying to do everything I can. But, it’s difficult. It’s very difficult.”
When Karine finally left the bathroom, she walked outside to speak with Paul’s mother, Edna, and told her, “I’m feeling bad. It’s not you, OK?” Karine walked off on her own to a local park, and when Paul ran after her and finally found her, the conversation didn’t really go anywhere.

In the upcoming episode, Karine explains to producers why she left the house. She wanted to be “alone,” since things haven’t been a smooth transition for her in America, and Paul has yet to find a job to support the family.
“Things are not going well since I arrived in America,” Karine says. “I left the house because I wanted to be alone. I was upset because I’m not adapting here in the U.S. And because Paul and I have been arguing a lot. A few weeks ago, I gave Paul two months to find work, but nothing has happened so far. So I want to talk to an immigration lawyer to know what the options are with my situation here.”
What happens when Karine speaks with an immigration lawyer?
Karine misses her family, and wants to see them. She finds an immigration lawyer that has a Portuguese translator, and she sets off to find answers. “I’m very scared,” Karine says. “It’s the first time I’ve left the house without Paul. I don’t know if Paul’s going to be angry with me. But I need somebody to help me. I’m desperate.”
When she arrives to speak with an immigration lawyer, she explains things aren’t going well with her and Paul, and they’re arguing a lot. Karine tells them about her deadline for Paul to get a job, and she hasn’t seen any real changes.
Karine asks about traveling alone with just Pierre, and the lawyer says the situation isn’t “the most cut and dry.” According to her status, she can “come and go,” however, the lawyer says she can’t tell her if there will be problems and “backlash,” considering Paul has rights as well. The lawyer explains that Paul could decide to take things to family court, or even show up at the airport. It’s unclear what might happen.
What will Karine do? It’s obvious that she’s really unhappy in her current circumstances, but there might by problems if she tries to leave without Paul. We’ll have to wait and see how things play out in the series.
