Nearly 1,500 people were vaccinated at one of Sacramento County’s largest COVID-19 vaccine clinics on Sunday.

It marked the fourth drive-thru clinic held at Jesuit High School.

“I think what we would like to do is deliver a very good vaccine to as many people as possible,” said Dr. Rusty Oshita, medical director and ER physician at Urgent Care Now.

Here are three things to know about the clinic and who is eligible to get a vaccine.

Here’s who is eligible for the vaccine

Oshita said there are very strict county guidelines that must be followed.

“I know that lends a lot of confusion,” Oshita said. “The state is a little bit different, the counties are a little bit different, but unfortunately, we do have to try and unify that idea and we follow our county guidelines very stringently.”

He said according to those guidelines, these groups are eligible for the vaccine:

  • 65-years of age and older
  • Law enforcement personnel
  • First responders
  • Hospital workers
  • Those in long-term care facilities

The clinic is appointment-based

Appointments can be made through the Sacramento County website, according to Oshita.

Demand for the vaccine is high

Oshita said the demand is greater than what they can provide.

“That part is certainly challenging for us,” he said.

1,480 vaccines were administered within four hours on Sunday.

“Demand exceeds and we’re certainly trying to keep up with that demand,” Oshita said.
