SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported 290 new cases of COVID-19, two new deaths, and 7,019 vaccinations administered in Utah on Saturday.
The rolling seven-day average for positive cases in the state is now at 286, down from 296 on Friday.
The rolling seven-day average for percent positivity calculated by the “people over people” method is now 7.8%. The rolling 7-day average for percent positivity calculated according to the “tests over tests” method is now 5.0%.
Today, 168 Utahns are hospitalized for COVID-19, down from 170 the day before. The total number of hospitalizations since the beginning of the pandemic is now 17,259.
The two additional deaths reported Saturday were:
- A Salt Lake County man between the ages of 25 and 44 who was hospitalized at his time of death
- A Iron County man between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized at his time of death
A total of 2,328 Utahns have now died from their infections with COVID-19.
Since yesterday, 3,186 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Utah, and 5,618 tests were added to the state’s total. Utah has now conducted a cumulative total of 5,042,945 COVID-19 tests on 2,758,512 people.
Since the pandemic began, a total of 2,782,173 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Utah, and 411,361 Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19.
The news comes as the health care professionals warn that the highly contagious and potentially more serious delta strain of the virus risks becoming the most dominant strain in the state during the coming weeks. On the same day, the United States celebrated hitting the milestone of 300 million COVID-19 vaccinations administered.
This week, Gov. Spencer Cox announced that approximately 95% of hospitalizations and 98% of deaths since March 23 — the day the state opened vaccine eligibility to all adults — have been among unvaccinated people.
