SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases increased by 288 on Friday, with three more deaths and 10,830 vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 209, according to the health department. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “people over people” method is now 6.3%. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3.8%.
There are now 147 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 54 in intensive care, state data shows. About 75% of all intensive care unit hospital beds in Utah are now occupied, including about 77% of ICU beds in the state’s 16 referral hospitals, according to the health department. About 57% of non-ICU hospital beds in Utah are now occupied, state data shows.
A total of 2,622,898 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 2,612,068 Thursday. A total of 1,501,787 Utahns, or about 46.8% of the state’s total population, have now received at least a first dose of the vaccine.
A total of 1,235,653 Utahns, or about 38.5% of the state’s population, are fully vaccinated, according to the health department.
Among Utahns age 12 and older, who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine, about 57.9% have received at least the first vaccine dose, and 47.7% are fully vaccinated. A total of 3,134,248 vaccine doses have been shipped to Utah so far.
Since January, 120,933 COVID-19 cases have been identified in Utah, and 99.5% of those were among unvaccinated people, according to the health department. Among those, there have been 5,016 hospitalizations, and 98.7% of the hospitalized cases were unvaccinated people. During that time period there have also been 688 deaths, and 99.9% of those were unvaccinated people.

Friday’s new numbers indicate a 0.07% increase in positive cases since Thursday. Of the 2,706,134 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 15% have tested positive for COVID-19. The number of total tests conducted in Utah since the pandemic began is now at 4,950,730, up 7,643 since Thursday. Of those, 4,357 were tests of people who had not previously been tested for COVID-19.
The three deaths reported Friday were:
- A Box Elder County woman over the age of 85 who was a resident of a long-term care facility.
- A Davis County man between the ages of 65 and 84 who was hospitalized when he died.
- A Salt Lake County woman between the ages of 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when she died.
Friday’s totals give Utah 407,113 total confirmed cases, with 16,914 total hospitalizations and 2,311 total deaths from the disease.
