Three children die from hepatitis in Indonesia bringing global death toll to four amid outbreak – Daily Mail

Three children in Indonesia have died from a mysterious hepatitis which, if confirmed, would bring the global death toll to at least four. The country's health ministry said the victims died from 'suspected acute hepatitis' last month and were all located in the capital of Jakarta. Their symptoms included nausea, vomiting, heavy diarrhea, fever, jaundice, seizures and loss of consciousness — all tell-tale signs of the deadly liver disease. Tests are underway to confirm their cause of death. More than 200 child hepatitis cases of unknown origin have been confirmed worldwide in the mystery outbreak...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Unlocking the Mystery of Why a Plant Virus Is So Powerful at Fighting Cancer – Even Metastatic Cancer – SciTechDaily

Veronique Beiss, who is the study’s first author, prepares a tray of plants to produce cowpea mosaic virus nanoparticles. Credit: David Baillot/UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering Cowpea mosaic virus, a plant virus that infects legumes, has a special power that you may not be aware of: when injected into a tumor, it activates the immune system to treat the cancer—even metastatic cancer—and prevent it from returning. Researchers at the University of California San Diego and Dartmouth College have spent the last seven years studying and testing cowpea mosaic virus—in the form of nanoparticles—as a cancer immunotherapy and have reported encouraging results in lab mice and companion dog patients. Its effectiveness has been unrivaled by other cancer-fighting techniques examined ...

‘Ozark’ Ends As an American Horror Story – The Ringer

For most of Breaking Bad, Walter White insisted that his ascension into a fearsome kingpin was the only way to make sure his family was provided for after a terminal cancer diagnosis. No matter what atrocities he committed—an exhaustive list that includes ordering a child to be poisoned and watching Jesse Pinkman’s girlfriend choke to death on her own vomit without intervening—Walt could always point back to family as a moral justification for his actions. In fact, it wasn’t until the series finale that Walt finally acknowledged the elephant in the room: He became Heisenberg for himself, and he liked it. On Ozark, the Netflix crime drama that feels like an algorithmic response to the popularity of Breaking Bad, Jason Bateman’s Marty Byrde beg...
