Women in their 30s and 40s warned over popping painkillers for headaches – New York Post

Headaches are uncomfortable and for most people a pill can relieve the pain. But women in their 30s and 40s have been warned over popping over-the-counter medication to get rid of their headaches. Most headaches go away on their own and aren’t usually a sign of anything serious. But they can be persistent, with studies finding that around 52 percent of people suffer with them on a regular basis. Many people also suffer with migraines and tension headaches, with the Global Burden of Disease Study 2013 listing migraines as one of only eight chronic medical conditions to affect more than 10 percent of the population worldwide. The UK’s National Health Service says one in every five women and around one in every 15 men experience migraines. But experts...

Doctors dismissed dangerous symptoms saying I was just getting fat – New York Post

A mom nearly died after claiming doctors repeatedly dismissed her symptoms, saying she was just “getting fat”. Sarah McInnes, 38, complained to her GP of ballooning by two dress sizes from a 12 to a 16 in just four weeks, in January of this year. Initially, doctors had told her the unusual weight gain was because she was scoffing too much food, even though her diet hadn’t changed. But she had in fact been living with an undiagnosed condition for 20 years that was fast becoming life-threatening. Sarah, from Kilbirnie, Scotland, had suffered pain for years and said it felt like she was “carrying a rucksack full of rocks”. In January, Sarah was sent for a pelvic scan after one doctor spoke up – telling other medics he disagreed with their theories. It...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

A new technique successfully fried up to 75 percent of tumors using ultrasound – Interesting Engineering

We just took a bite out of cancer. With ultrasound waves. Scientists from the University of Michigan used a new technique to whittle away at tumors inside rats — by employing noninvasive ultrasound waves, approaching the threshold of a major breakthrough for cancer liver patients, according to a new study published in the journal Cancers. And, with this technique also currently undergoing human tests in the U.S. and Europe, it could be just a matter of time before it's publicly available. The new ultrasound method eliminates up to 75 percent of tumors Early tests suggested that the sound waves successfully decimated up to 75 percent of liver tumor material in the rat bodies, which enabled the little critters' immune systems to jump into action and beat the leftover cancerous tissues out...

Everything We Know About Kendrick Lamars Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers – Complex

After five long years, Kendrick Lamar is finally about to return with a new album.  On Monday afternoon, he updated his website oklama.com with a statement that revealed he is, in fact, not retiring. “Appreciate your patience,” the end of his Michael Jordan-esque press release read, after revealing his album’s impending arrival. Keeping track of Kendrick’s very subtle, very quiet moves has always been difficult. He barely makes appearances outside of his musical performances, and outside of occasional rap verses (like his features on Baby Keem’s The Melodic Blue) we rarely hear his voice. Despite moving in silence, though, Kendrick has still been leaving subtle bread crumbs along the way, cluing us in on what the new music might sound like, and how his “love, loss, and grief” have i...
