Attorney objects to own question in Amber Heard-Johnny Depp trial – New York Post

One of Amber Heard’s attorneys objected to his own line of questioning during Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit against the actress – seemingly prompting the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star to chuckle in court. Attorney Adam Nadelhaft goofed Monday after Depp wrapped up four days on the witness stand in Fairfax, Virginia, where jurors earlier heard the actor calling Heard a “c–t” in a recording played in court. At one point during testimony Monday, Nadelhaft was questioning Ben King, Depp’s house manager, regarding the 2015 fight between Heard and the actor in Australia that left him with a severed finger. “You didn’t know what could cause damage to Mr. Depp’s hand while you were there on March 8, correct?” Nadelhaft asked King. King testified a...

Something sinister is lurking in The Essex Serpents first trailer – The Verge

Author Sarah Perry’s 2016 novel The Essex Serpent is a story about a fictional village descending into madness as more and more people become convinced that there’s a mythical beast lurking in the nearby waters. But The Essex Serpent also revolved around a complicated romance that Apple seems keen on exploring in its upcoming adaptation of the book — at least judging from the first trailer. The Essex Serpent follows as Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) and her companion Martha (Hayley Squires) journey to the fictional village of Aldwinter in pursuit of Cora’s dream to become a paleontologist following the sudden death of her abusive husband. While local tales of a massive primordial serpent capable of causing earthquakes are cause for alarm for most in the village and have led to a kind ...

Misha Collins Is Getting Clowned For Joking About Being Bisexual Then Coming Out As Straight – BuzzFeed News

Three days later, after he began to make headlines for making an apparent statement about his sexuality, the 47-year-old said on Twitter that he wanted to "deeply apologize." "This was not my intention so I need to correct the record: I am not bisexual. I happen to be straight, but I am also a fierce ally and the last thing I want to do is falsely co-opt the struggles of the LGBTQ community," he wrote on April 25. "I believe and fully support that we need to sanctify the human right to express our identities honestly and to be free to love whomever we choose openly." In the show's final season in November 2020, Collins' character Castiel professed his love for Dean Winchester (played by Jensen Ackles), then sacrificed himself to save Dean by being dragged to "superhell." Thr...

Second death reported in new Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo – CNN

CNN  —  Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo are scrambling to contain an Ebola outbreak after a second person died from the virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Tuesday. The country declared a new outbreak of the disease last week after the death of a 31-year-old man, who was diagnosed with the disease in Mbandaka, in the DRC’s northwestern Equateur Province, after being sick for more than a week. His sister-in-law, a 25-year-old woman, was the second victim. She died on April 25. “This is very sad news, and we must continue to put all our effort into saving the lives of anyone else who may have contracted the virus. So far, at least 145 people ha...

Scientists shed new light on how early stage breast cancer spreads to other organs – CNBC

A consultant analyzing a mammogram. Rui Vieira | PA Wire | Getty Images Scientists have shed new light on how early stage breast cancer spreads to other organs undetected, which can cause fatal metastatic cancer in some women years later. Before a breast cancer tumor is even detected, cells that are not yet malignant can spread to other organs where they lie dormant and don't replicate, according to new research led by Maria Soledad Sosa, a professor at Mount Sinai's Tisch Cancer Institute in New York City. The NR2F1 gene normally prevents pre-malignant cells from spreading to other parts of the body. Sosa and a team of scientists found that a cancer gene, HER2, suppresses the NR2F1 gene, allowing pre-cancerous cells to move to other organs of the body whe...
